One of the projects the Garden Club have been working on this year is the establishment of square - metre garden beds. We are following the principles set out by Mel Bartholomew, whose mathematical ideas show the successful spacings of different crop varieties. His method almost eliminates the need for weeding as the plants are grown close together. We have 4 boxes, each divided by wooden laths into 9 squares and we are experimenting with growing different crops. We are learning how easy it is to grow a variety of plants in a very small area, a concept we hope the students can share with their families.
