Music Soiree

On Wednesday, 5th December, instrumental students performed solos, duets and large ensemble pieces as part of the biannual Music Soiree. Most students have only been learning their instrument for 9 - 24 months, and did a fantastic job of entertaining the audience with Christmas carols and traditional favourites.

The Kahukura Junior Orchestra kicked off the concert with a medley of Christmas songs, along with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. We then heard from cellos, violins, flutes, clarinets, trumpets, a bass guitar and keyboards. For the first time ever, we also invited soloists from our cluster schools perform. Thanks to the audience for being so supportive; it's not easy performing as a beginner, and the audience backed the musicians from start to end.

Finally, a special thank you must go to the music tutors who work so brilliantly with our young people. The staff and students of South are very grateful to you for your hard work. Email Kate Revell if you would like to find out more about itinerant music lessons and/or the Kahukura Junior Orchestra in 2019.
