Congratulations to Madeline, Zac, Max, Jennifer, Hanna, Rebecca, Madeleine, Laura, Connor, Zac, Lily, Emily, Teah, Poppy, Victoria, Alex, Luke and Bronnie from South that took part in the Canterbury Schools Orienteering Competition last weekend. Over half of the team were trying the sport for the first time. All students competed with enthusiasm and determination. Max from N2 reports………….
Orienteering is heaps of fun. It’s kind of like a treasure hunt, you go around using the map and the clues to get all the checkpoints. Ideally you run but you don’t have to. Orienteering can be on different terrain, up a hill, on the flat and sometimes even in a kayak! Last weekend there was school orienteering at Hagley Park on Saturday.. There are usually around 16 checkpoints that you get by yourself or with a friend. We had fun competing in the fast flat course near the Botanic Gardens and the longer course at Halswell Quarry on the Sunday. Orienteering is a great experience so give it a go!
